The project Caídas arises from an intimate journey through grief following the loss of my father, translating the emotional weight of absence into a rigorous exploration of painting and paper. Moving deliberately against the relentless pace of contemporary hyper-productivity, the work positions the act of falling—and the subsequent pause—as a quiet form of resistance and introspection.
Stripped of monumental scales, the core of the project relies on the delicacy of paper and the intimacy of proximity. It unfolds through minimalist watercolors on cotton paper, drawing conceptual inspiration from Georg Baselitz’s inverted figures and Robert Longo’s iconic Men in the Cities series, capturing suspended moments of physical and psychological surrender. These expressive figures are directly paired with the manual intervention upon an antique technical book, Carta nacional de declinaciones magnéticas, where scientific maps of gravitational forces become a conceptual support mapping human vulnerability.
Ultimately, Caídas invites the spectator to slow down and inhabit a space of silence where stopping is a necessary state of transition.
